[ARCHIVED] Fishers Police Chief Ed Gebhart Pens Letter to Residents

07-29-2018 Logo High Res

Fishers,

2020 has proven to be a physically, mentally, and emotionally draining year for everyone. However, one thing that has remained constant is FPD’s commitment to serving and protecting our city. As your Police Chief, I make it a priority to keep lines of communication open to create an atmosphere of transparency regarding our agency’s policies and procedures.

I am proud to announce that this week, the Fishers Police Department was among the first group in the nation to receive approval from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for national use of force policy certification.

This three-year certification is part of Presidential Executive Order 13929 to ensure that law enforcement agencies across the country provide transparent, safe, and accountable delivery of services to their communities by prohibiting chokeholds as a use of force technique and by maintaining use of force policies that adhere to all local, state, and federal laws.  CALEA has reviewed our policies and found that we are in full compliance with all requirements for federal certification.  FPD is proud to be a leading law enforcement agency and among the first group in the nation to receive this approval.

Our mission is to protect and serve our city, secure the future of our children, and support our officers and staff to achieve the highest standards.  National use of force policy certification is another way for us to demonstrate our commitment to serving and protecting this community.
