IMG_5195

The beloved summer tradition, the Fishers Farmers’ Market, returns for another season this Saturday, May 4. Presented by IU Health Saxony, the market will be held every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon in the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater (6 Municipal Drive, Fishers). New this year, the market will be extended through the end of October.

Rated one of the top farmers’ markets in the region, the Fishers Farmers’ Market offers local produce, baked goods, and prepared foods from over 50 full and part-time vendors. The market also features live entertainment from the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater stage, along with popular Farm Hands kids’ program, where the market’s littlest shoppers can participate in special activities. Kids can also take the Two-Bite Challenge, where they can earn $2 in Market Bucks to spend at participating market vendors when they taste two bites of the week’s featured food.

The market will feature monthly theme days with special programming for shoppers. The new Green Fair on June 8 will host local organizations and businesses that promote sustainability, conservation, and environmental protection. Also new this year, the Fishers Freebirds Club will host Freebirds Day at the market on August 24 with special exhibitions, giveaways, and activities geared to those ages 50 and better. Other theme days include the return of the Health and Wellness Expo (May 18), Biz Kidz Day (July 20), and Fall Harvest Fest (September 21).

To reduce waste, vendors will no longer provide single-use plastic shopping bags for shoppers. Visitors are encouraged to go green and bring their own reusable shopping bags for their purchases. Also new this year, the Fishers Farmers’ Market will accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program). Shoppers can use their Hoosier Works EBT card to buy eligible fresh, health, local food with SNAP Market Bucks. These tokens never expire and can be used throughout the market season. Learn more about SNAP and WIC at the market and playfishers.com/SNAP.

Shoppers can find free parking throughout the Nickel Plate District. Free garage parking is available in The Depot and Flats at Switch parking garages, located to the east and west of Fishers City Hall (1 Municipal Drive), along with the Police Station garage (5 Municipal Drive) and Spark Apartments garage (8780 North Street).
