[ARCHIVED] Operation Indy Commute – I-69 Lane Restrictions This Week

FISHERS, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors are planning overnight lane restrictions this week as part of Operation Indy Commute – I-69.

Rieth-Riley Construction, the INDOT contractor for the $11 million added travel lanes project, plans to restrict the left lanes of northbound and southbound I-69 between 96th Street and 116th Street each night through Friday night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Rieth-Riley is constructing an additional travel lane along southbound I-69 between 116th Street and I-465. Auxiliary lanes will be built to connect northbound and southbound interchange ramps between 116th, 96th and 82nd streets.

Milestone Contractors, the INDOT contractor for the $18 million interchange improvement project at Exit 205, plans the following lane restrictions this week:
• Southbound I-69 – The right lane will be restricted north of State Road 37 to 116th Street each night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. beginning tonight through Saturday night. On Friday night, traffic stops of up to 20 minutes each will occur after midnight.
• Northbound I-69 – Alternating lane restrictions from south of 116th Street to north of the SR 37 flyover bridge each night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. starting Wednesday through Saturday night.
• Northbound Exit 205 – Alternating ramp lane restrictions each from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. beginning tonight through Thursday night.

This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

Milestone is completing improvements to the northbound ramp configuration that include a new two-lane flyover bridge to SR 37, additional lanes for exiting to SR 37 and 116th Street, and a new entrance ramp to northbound I-69 that eliminates weaving traffic patterns. Similar improvements to the southbound side of the interchange are well underway.

The southbound I-69 Exit 205 ramp to 116th Street is scheduled to close for up to 90 days beginning after 8 p.m. on Friday, July 26. The official detour for the ramp closure routes traffic south on I-69 to the 96th Street interchange (Exit 203) to return northbound on I-69 to 116th Street (Exit 205). Improvements to the southbound side of the interchange are expected to be complete by the end of this year.

Operation Indy Commute is an initiative by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to strategically eliminate recurring commuting bottlenecks on I-69 in Marion and Hamilton counties between I-465 and Exit 205. A separate contract is adding a southbound travel lane between 116th Street and I-465 and constructing northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes to connect interchange ramps between 116th, 96th and 82nd streets.
