[ARCHIVED] FPD Reminds Residents of Motor Driven Cycle Law

Fishers Chief of Police Mitch Thompson would like remind residents of the state law pertaining to motor driven cycles.

  • No more mopeds, scooters, or motorized bicycles…they are all motor driven cycles.
  • All must be registered and plated
  • Operators and passengers under the age of 18 must wear a helmet
  • Divides into two categories; 
o Class A MDCs
? Greater than 50cc
? Require Insurance
? Require Operators License
o Class B MDCs
? 50cc or less
? No license, no insurance
? Requires ID
  • Class B requirements 
o 15 years old
o ID card with MDC Endorsement
o No passengers
o No interstates or sidewalks
o Not faster than 35 mph

“I want to be sure that residents are aware of the laws relating to motor driven cycles and make sure that the riders operate in a responsible manner for their own safety and for the safety of others on the roadway” said Chief of Police Thompson.
