[ARCHIVED] Death Investigation in Fishers

(Fishers, Indiana) - On the morning of May 4th, 2023, Fishers Police and Fire Department personnel responded to reports of an unresponsive person in a pond on Harborvale Chase (141st Street and Promise Road). Members of the Fishers Police Department Dive Team responded and deployed for recovery efforts. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Investigators with the Fishers Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and Investigators with the Forensic Services Unit responded to the scene along with the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. The man’s body was successfully recovered and turned over to the custody of the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. 

Fishers Police Chaplains responded and assisted with support efforts for the family and loved ones.  

Preliminary investigative steps were conducted and Rapid DNA procedures by the FPD Forensics Unit were effective in determining the identity of the man. The family of the deceased was later notified.  Foul play is not suspected at this time. The man was identified as 35-year-old James T. Hughes of Fishers who was reported missing on April 30th, 2023.  

The Fishers Police Department asks for community members who reside in the Sedona Woods Neighborhood to provide any exterior camera footage of the man walking in the area of: Litchfield Place, Catalina Drive, Harborvale Chase, Dobbins Drive, Silverbell Lane and Wynngate Lane.  

The times of interest are after 10:37 p.m. on the night of Monday April 24th, 2023, when Mr. Hughes was last seen, through April 25th, 2023, at 02:00 a.m.

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office is conducting the investigation into the cause and manner of death.
