Whether you’re a master gardener or a gardening newbie, we’ve got an opportunity for you. This spring Cyntheanne Park, on the city’s northeast side, will become home to Fishers’ first community garden. The Community Garden Program will allow residents to rent a 10 feet by 10 feet plot of land to garden for the season. Gardeners can reserve conventional or organic plots and grow their own herbs and vegetables all while cultivating relationships with other local gardeners, farmers and residents.
“For those who have never gardened before, this is a good place to start,” said Fishers Parks and Recreation Director, Tony Elliot. “This is almost equal parts gardening and community engagement.”
The Community Garden Program will have 40 10 feet by 10 feet garden plots as well as a limited number of accessible 4 feet by 9 feet plots. Seasonal rental is available for just $20 and Fishers Parks and Recreation will offer gardening tool kits for beginners.
“I commend the Parks department for listening to the community’s needs and developing a community garden in Fishers” stated Fishers City Council member Brad DeReamer. “This ongoing partnership will enhance Cyntheanne Park and offer new experience for new and veteran gardeners.”
