This Thanksgiving, after families gather to feast on turkey, pie and all of the holiday favorites in between, many will turn their attention to the newspaper stuffed with Black Friday ads from retailers promising “door busters” and unbelievable deals. Many will wake early Friday morning – and some will begin even earlier on Thursday evening — to fight the crowds and stand in long lines to spend the day shopping at some of the nation’s largest retailers.
But, before you plan your Black Friday strategy, why not discover all that Fishers has to offer and instead shop local this holiday season?
When you choose to support local businesses, you reinvest in your own community. Each dollar spent at a local business generates three times more wealth to the local economy than a chain retailer. Additionally, local businesses donate more than two times as much sales revenue per dollar to local non-profits, events and teams compared to chain retailers.
While big-box retailers deliver on their promise with unbeatable deals on hot ticket items, local businesses offer unique products crafted by local entrepreneurs and artisans. It’s our local businesses that give our community its distinct personality.
This holiday season, we’ve teamed up with local businesses for #ShopFishers, a local shopping extravaganza. On Saturday, Nov. 29, many of our local businesses will offer special deals throughout the day. To learn more about participating businesses and the deals they’ll offer, visit www.fishers.in.us/ShopFishers or just look for the #ShopFishers decals in local storefronts.
#ShopFishers is a great time to discover new and “new to you” local businesses, but we encourage you to shop local as often as you can. On Dec. 4, a few businesses in the Nickel Plate District are hosting a progressive shopping event from 4-8 p.m. and each business will offer an appetizer, main course or dessert; it’s a perfect time to continue your holiday shopping.
