After releasing the
2017 Mental Health Report, Fishers’ mental health task force is ready to dive into phase two of the initiative. While phase one was primarily focused on improving education and training, and enhancing local resources and access to service; phase two promises to focus on changing the culture and stigma around mental health. Excitement around the next phase is already building thanks to community collaboration, and the first-ever #StigmaFreeFishers Week!
#StigmaFreeFishers Week kicks off on Wednesday, August 2nd with an interfaith, community prayer gathering, led by Grace Community Church at the Nickel Plate District AMP. The service beings at 7 p.m., and is free to attend. As students head back to school, parents will also notice new mental health resources available during ‘Meet the Teacher’ nights.
The week of August 7th, #StigmaFreeFishers Week invites the community out for a variety of events! Planned activities include:
- A special address during the intermission of the Tuesday Night Concert Series,
- Three dine-to-donate events in support of the Peyton Reikhof Foundation for Youth Hope,
- Hope for Happiness, an event created by the Stigma Free HSE High School club featuring local favorites, Dave & Rae, and
- A weekend of free events that include Jason’s Race 5K Run and Walk, incentives to unplug at local parks and a community movie night featuring Inside Out!
