Everything you need to know about the upcoming Fishers Farmers’ Market, which has been voted the third Best Farmers’ Market in Indy by the Indy A-List (ranking it the top Farmers' Market in Hamilton County)!  We spoke with Lisa Wilkins, Farmers’ Market Coordinator for Fishers Parks & Recreation, about new vendors and activities, exciting volunteer opportunities and what visitors can look forward to this Farmers’ Market season!

strawberriesCity of Fishers (COF): What is your favorite aspect of the Market?

Lisa Wilkins (LW): The sense of community and friendship at the Farmers’ Market.  I love seeing families and friends come together at the Market and spend the morning sharing their commitment to fresh, healthy food, while supporting local businesses, chatting with vendors and enjoying the live entertainment.  To also witness the relationships that form between the vendors and shoppers is great; I love hearing vendors share with their customers the health benefits of their produce, how their plants are grown and products are made, and the history and inspiration behind their business. Every Market Saturday, I truly witness an incredible sense of our community at its finest.

COF: What are you most excited about this season? Any new features we can look forward to?

no label at the table.pngLW: I’m excited about so many aspects!  We changed the layout from last year to be more accommodating to wheelchairs and strollers, and there is now a sidewalk path for shopping.  Also, Source Yoga will be at the Market on the first Saturday of every month offering free yoga class from 8 - 9 AM.  Cooking and product demonstrations will also be a new and exciting feature at the Market this year.  We currently have a 25% increase in participating vendors from 2016, and this year we will have nearly 60 full and part-time food and plant inspired vendors at the Market.

Overall, I’m most excited about our new vendor, No Label at the Table Food Company, a gluten free and dairy free baked goods company staffed by people on the autism spectrum. The mission of this organization is to provide job skills training and opportunities to people on the autism spectrum, and we’re so excited that they will be joining our Fishers Farmers’ Market community! For more information about No Label at the Table Food Company and our other Market vendors, check out our Vendor List.

COF: We heard that there are new volunteer opportunities available for residents at the Market this year.

LW: One exciting new feature is our Fishers Farmers’ Market Ambassador Program, which gives volunteers the opportunity to assist with various aspects of the Market. The Ambassador role is one of the most important roles at the Market, as they’re the ‘welcoming face’ for visitors. Ambassadors will serve as informational resources, customer and vendor assistants, and will help distribute promotional materials and much more.

The Farmers’ Market has Ambassador Program shifts available each Saturday from 7:30 - 10:30 AM and 10 AM - 1 PM. Contact Dan Domsic at domsicd@fishers.in.us or at (317) 595-3151 to sign up.
