About Chief Gebhart

Ed Gebhart is the Chief of the Fishers Police Department, the 4th largest police agency in Indiana. He was appointed in 2018 by Mayor Scott Fadness and has been in law enforcement since 1994.

Chief Gebhart is originally from the Los Angeles area but moved to Colorado as a teen. In 1994, he attended the Southwestern Colorado Police Academy and started his policing career as a deputy sheriff in La Plata County, Colorado. In La Plata County, he served as a jail deputy and a patrol deputy and was later assigned to the Special Investigations Unit (narcotics). In 1998, he married Aimee, and in 1999, they moved to Indiana to raise their family.

Chief Gebhart started with the Fishers Police Department in 2000. In addition to working as a patrol officer, field training officer, SWAT member, and background/public information officer, he also served as a patrol Sergeant. He was subsequently promoted to patrol Captain, then to Assistant Chief, and was appointed Chief of Police in 2018. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and graduated from the FBI National Academy Session 251.

During Chief Gebhart’s tenure, he has maintained national accreditation to keep policies and procedures current with modern policing. He works to build community trust by regularly meeting with the community to build relationships. In 2000, he worked with multiple agencies to broaden legislation to fund a large task force to pursue criminals who possess illegal weapons. In addition, the Fishers Police Department is the only police agency outside the State Police with DNA capabilities.
