Car Seat Inspections
Fishers Police Department Car Seat Program
The Fishers Police Department has four certified car seat technicians. To help ensure correct seat installation and usage, the FPD car seat technicians conduct free clinics on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Although the clinics are free, and an appointment is required.
As of March 2021, car seat inspections are conducted the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month by appointment only. (Dates are subject to change)
**Prior to arrival, the car seat needs to be installed.**
To set up an appointment, call the FPD Administration Office at 317-595-3300.
On the day of your appointment, be ready to provide the following information:
-The make, model and year of the vehicle
-The make and model of the safety seat
-The height and weight of the child
-Have the car seat and vehicle books with you at the appointment
In order to make sure seats are correctly fitted to the child and the vehicle, the child should be present during the inspection if at all possible. (If there is an unborn child, technicians will review installation methods and proper usage of the seat.) Inspections take about 30 minutes and will be conducted in the garage located behind the police station.
During the inspection, the following will be reviewed with caregivers:
Selection - Is the car seat right for the child’s height, weight, and development? Does it fit in the car? Is is easy to use correctly each and every time it is installed?
Direction - Should the child be forward or rear facing?
Location - Is the seat in the correct location in the car?
Installation - Is the seat secured correctly?
Harnessing - Is the child strapped in the seat securely?

All children under the age of 16 must be properly restrained either by using a seat belt or a child restraint system, to include a booster seat.
