Transportation Plan 2040
It is estimated that by the year 2040, the population of Fisher will reach 131,500, adding an estimated 47,500 additional people to Fishers. As the city grows it is important that the community’s transportation network changes as well.

Through detailed research and public input, the Community Development and Engineering Departments are in the process of updating the Transportation Plan. The Plan will provide a long range policy framework to optimize public investment in transportation infrastructure. The plan assesses existing and future transportation needs for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

The project has four main components including the following:
  • Identifying key issues
  • Developing solutions
  • Setting strategic priorities
  • Optimizing investments

And will look at issues like:
  • Changing needs within the community due to demographic shifts
  • Using transportation to facilitate economic development
  • Offering transportation alternatives
  • Establishing strategic priorities
  • Connecting to the regional network

Next Steps
Through an extensive public engagement process, staff were able to collect over 900 surveys from residents regarding their thoughts of transportation in Fishers. Policy Analytics was hired to update the City’s population and employment data and an analysis of future infrastructure needs has been completed. Staff are now in the process of setting short, mid and long term priorities for infrastructure investments and updating standards to meet future needs. The draft plan will be posted at this site when it is available in 2015.
