Nickel Plate District AMP

AMP renderingExclusive Look at Improved Nickel Plate District AMP, Slated to Open Summer 2018

When the vision of the AMP was born, Mayor Fadness had a goal of creating a vibrant, destination downtown gathering place in the then Town of Fishers. Created as the anchor of the Nickel Plate District, the NPD AMP hosted its first concert in 2012, and since then has truly become the place to be year-round.

The NPD AMP has become home to a variety of concert series, summer farmers’ markets, movies in the park, and other community-wide events, and it has attracted great attention. Between national concerts, including Rick Springfield and Smashmouth, and local favorites like the Parrots of the Caribbean and Dave and Rae, the AMP hosts nearly 5,000 visitors per show.

As the AMP has grown in popularity as a destination-venue during summer months, City staff quickly realized the venue needed to grow with the demand. Today, the City is excited to share a rendering of the improvements coming to the NPD AMP this summer.

The renovated NPD AMP will include one, 1700 sq. ft. AMP Pavilion with meeting space that can accommodate up to 46 people. The space will include roundtables and natural lighting with glass sides, along restrooms. The community will have opportunities to use the meeting space in the future!

The NPD AMP rendering outlines a variety of aesthetic improvements and structural modifications which will enhance attendees’ experiences while at the venue. Those improvements include:

  • A redesigned parking lot behind Fishers Police Station, allowing for more seating at the AMP and creating symmetrical parking in the parking lots located behind the police and fire departments.
  • Improved connectivity around the AMP through wider, better connected sidewalks.
  • The addition of a fountain for all ages located south of the new AMP Pavilion to enhance the experience of visitors to the Nickel Plate District,
  • Relocation of the current restrooms to be located more centrally in the AMP Pavilion. Current restrooms located inside the AMP will be repurposed for storage and to create a green room for performers.

Beyond those improvements, the AMP stage will also be modified to accommodate musicians and performances of all types. A new stage will be 25 feet deeper, and an added sound wall will enhance aesthetics looking at the stage, while also improving the listening experience that pushes the sound out into the crowd. Additionally, renovations include an elevated lawn with additional drainage, sloping, and pathway to help with storm water drainage. The grassy knoll will include contour elevation for a better viewing experience regardless of seating proximity to stage.

Through an RFP process, the City of Fishers has awarded Fishers-based company, Myers Construction Management with the project, and is also working closely with Meyer Najem to ensure management of the project is timely and remains on-track for a June 2018 re-opening.
