Part-Time Utility Locator

$12.00 Hourly

Location: Fishers City Hall, Fishers, Indiana

Position Description:

Many of us are unaware or simply forget that there is a vast network of pipes and cables running beneath our feet. Most of the time there is no reason to give them any thought... that is until someone drives a shovel into one of these hidden utilities. The Part-Time Utility Locator helps to keep this from ever happening by locating and marking the City's utilities, which includes: storm water, sanitary sewer, fiber optic facilities, etc. This position will also be used to collect and update GIS (Geographical Information System) data. A Global Positioning System (GPS), maps, and a city vehicle will be provided. The position offers a great opportunity to work independently, work outside, and get exercise, all while serving the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; Valid driver’s license; Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time; Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs; Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of people; Able to handle several projects at the same time; Utility locating experience and education or experience with GIS preferred; Familiarity with AutoCAD or GIS such as ERSI or ArchView preferred.

Supplemental Information:

Approximately 29 hours per week. Flexible scheduling available within the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
