Position Description:

The Public Works Department Water Quality Division Engineer - Stormwater position is an integral part of the team that manages the stormwater, drainage and flood control infrastructure for the City of Fishers. Responsibilities include: compliance with environmental regulations; identification and resolution of actual or potential stormwater, drainage and flood control issues; and program management of the capital improvement program. Working closely with the City's Engineering and Development departments this position is also involved with redevelopment projects.The City's MS4 Permit (Stormwater Water Quality Program) is an award-winning program recognized by the state and the City takes a proactive approach to Stormwater Management featuring partnerships with State, County and Local partnerships/stakeholders.

Examples of Duties


    • Obtains and optimizes funding (grants, Utility fees, loans, etc.) in coordination with the Controller's Office
    • Acts as the City's designated Flood Control Manager
    • Provide strategic and technical input to stakeholders (commercial, residential, developers, environmentalist, regulators, etc.)
    • Acts as liaisons with internal (Engineering and Economic Development Depts., Board of Public Works, City Council) and external partners (County Commissioners, County Surveyor and Highway Depts., INDOT, IDEM, IDNR, etc.)
    • Reviews construction plans for City stormwater, drainage and flood control projects
    • Provides design and technical input to Engineering and Economic Development Departments on stormwater, drainage and flood control issues and projects
    • Issues permits for storm water discharge
    • Meets with developers and residents in need of sewer service

Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver's license; Bachelor's degree with coursework in construction, engineering, water resources, or related field; 4-6 years work experience in the management of water resources, including flood control, storm sewer design, drainage design, site design, easement and ROW acquisition and/or hydrology; Professional Engineer's License in Indiana preferred; Ability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary for meetings, training, or emergencies/on-call assignments; Able to work under adverse weather conditions.
