Residential Plan Examiner

Salary Range: $18.56 - $22.27 Hourly / $33,780.00 - $40,536.00 Annually

Position Description: 

Twenty five years ago, the population in Fishers was around 30,000. Today an estimated 88,000 people call Fishers home. One of the fastest growing areas in the country there are no signs of slowing down. In order to keep up with the growth and effectively serve our citizens the newly created Residential Plan Reviewer position provides plan review and code enforcement intervention on new residential construction projects and remodeling projects within the City. Examples of Duties

  • Review all plans and specifications for residential projects to ensure compliance with the state adopted residential code.
  • Initiate pre-construction conferences with contractors and/or developers and associated staff when necessary.
  • Provide technical direction and assistance to inspection personnel relating to issues in the field.
  • Assess and resolve complaints received from clients, applicants, public, designers, and contractors.
  • Regularly interact directly with municipal clients and their staff.
  • Perform inspections on a limited as needed basis, providing interpretation of codes in the field.
  • Attend meetings, educational seminars, and functions relating to building codes.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; Valid driver’s license; Possess ICC certification for Residential Plans Examiner and Residential Building Inspector, or be able to obtain within one year of employment; Advanced computer skills including general knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; Thorough knowledge of residential building code and energy code; Ability to read and understand blue prints; General knowledge of fire protection, mechanical or structural engineering technology, construction management or technology; Excellent communication and customer service skills.
