Residential Structures
Requirements
Permits are required for all building construction; this includes new homes, remodels, and additions to existing structures, decks, pools, shed, porches, roofing, etc. Permits may be obtained from the Permitting and Inspections Division of the Community Development Department.

Application
A property owner or their contractor must apply to the Permitting and Inspections Division for permits to build. The property owner or contractor fills out the application(s) for their project and will need to submit two copies of the required construction drawings, consisting of at least a site plan showing all existing and proposed structures, and distances from all property lines.

Floodplain
Plans must also show how the structure will be built, the materials used, and whether or not it is in a floodplain. For a complete list of requirements see the Required Documentation List. To see if your site is located in a floodplain, please see our floodplain map. If you are in a floodplain, please refer to the floodplain regulations in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Approval
When all paperwork has been submitted, the permit application will begin to be reviewed. Once all required approvals are obtained the applicant will be notified and the permit may be paid for and issued.
