The Department of Community Development serves the Fishers community through various functions relating to development, growth, planning, and zoning. The department plays a role in the development approval process from the time a parcel of land is considered for development or being annexed into the community to the time that appropriate zoning is established or a site design is approved. Department of Community Development staff oversee the completion of planning initiatives such as corridor plans, redevelopment projects, or planning areas, while also maintaining and enforcing the local Unified Development Ordinance that regulates zoning classification standards.
