CitizenNet Initiative Offers a Variety of Ways to Get Involved
The Town of Fishers is launching a CitizenNet initiative to promote the variety of Town programs that foster citizen engagement, involvement, and networking. Through the initiative, the Town hopes more residents will become aware of the diverse programs offered for citizens.
Below are free programs open to all adult residents of the Town.
Town Government Academy (TGA)
TGA is an eight-week course that allows residents of Fishers to become "students" and examine the inner workings of town government. Students will hear from staff, tour Town facilities, and engage in the collaborative town governing process. At the end of the course, students should have a greater understanding of how Fishers government works for its residents.
TGA meets Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Most sessions take place at Town Hall but several evenings are off-site visits to the Town's Public Works Garage and various town parks.
TGA Alumni Group
For graduates of Town Government Academy, the TGA alumni group continues involvement in Town activities and happenings through roundtables with Town officials. Members are also encouraged to get involved in department and town-wide events.
The HOA Group is a new group designed for HOA Presidents from all incorporated neighborhoods. The purpose of this group is for the Town to improve communication to HOA's, hear concerns and problems facing neighborhoods, and provide an avenue for HOA networking and partnership. If presidents can't attend, designated representatives are welcome.
Citizen's Police Academy
The academy is an opportunity for the community to participate in police-style training through a 12-week course. Community members learn first-hand how the Fishers Police Department works. Training topics include criminal law, crime prevention, the K9 program, defensive tactics, and narcotics training. The academy includes demonstrations and training as well as classroom instruction.
Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Group
The Alumni Group are graduates of the Citizen's Police Academy who provide volunteer support for the Fishers Police Department. They also organize social functions.
Citizen's Fire Academy
Citizens can get an inside look at fire department operations.
