The Department of Development serves the Fishers community through various functions relating to development, growth and construction. From the time a parcel of land is considered for development or being annexed into the community, the appropriate zoning is established, a site design is approved, and a building is constructed and occupied, the department of development has played a role in each step of the process.
Departmental Organization The department is generally divided into three areas:
Planning staff coordinates annexations, zoning of property for residential and commercial use, and site design approval. A professional planning staff reviews all projects for conformance to local ordinances and standards and serves as staff to the Advisory Plan Commission and other boards.
Zoning staff of professionals oversees the implementation of proposed plans and developments and the administration of the existing zoning ordinances of the Town and serves as staff to the Board of Zoning Appeals and provides assistance to petitioners through the process
Building Services staff checks all structural building plans for code compliance, issues permits. performs site inspections during construction and, finally, issues a certificate of occupancy. As a public safety function, the Building Commissioner and certified building inspectors seek to insure the safety of all building occupants through a rigorous inspection system.
