96th St & Allisonville Rd Project 8% Complete

After several public meetings, the town has taken the public's input and planned this major intersection improvement in a way that will minimize disruption and significantly improve traffic along Allisonville road at 96th Street. Upon completion, drivers will see a reduction in their drive time and neighbors of this busy intersection will see an improvement in traffic. This solution for high-traffic intersections such as 96th Street and Allisonville Road eliminates the hourglass effect while minimizing the time spent stopped at all signals. The new intersection will reduce overall delay and provides the best traffic flow, lowest construction cost and least property impact for neighbors and business owners. Two through lanes and one left turn lane will remain open in each direction for the duration of the project. Drivers are advised to follow all signage posted in the vicinity. Current Status: Under Construction Project Location: The project is taking place at the intersection of 96th Street and Allisonville Road. Project Scope: The standard signalized intersection will be reconstructed to eliminate the ability to turn left at the intersection. The intersection will be redone to be a Michigan Left Intersection where motorists will need to turn right, make a U-Turn then go back through the intersection. Reason for Project: Improvements are needed to reduce the amount of wait time at the intersection. Funding: The Design and Construction costs will be locally funded. Update: 5-11-12 Traffic has been shifted to the inside lanes on westbound 96th east of Allisonville, eastbound 96th west of Allisonville, northbound Allisonville south of 96th, southbound Allisonville north of 96th. The contractor will begin replacing the concrete pavement in these sections. This phase is scheduled to last for several months.
