FPD Reminds Drivers to Stay Alert
This morning, during the morning rush hour, Fishers police officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on 116th Street west of Olio Road. Upon their arrival, officers observed a passenger car had struck the rear of a cement mixer truck.
The driver of the passenger car was entrapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued by Firefighters and Paramedics from the Fishers Department of Fire and Emergency Services. The driver and his three children were transported to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the cement mixer was not injured.
Officers interviewed both drivers. The driver of the passenger car told officers he was traveling westbound on 116th Street behind the cement mixer. He told officers that he momentarily looked down, into his center console, and when he looked up he realized the cement mixer had slowed to turn into a construction site. He was unable to avoid the collision.
Fishers Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Unit remind drivers that any distraction, no matter how slight, can be dangerous. Drivers are encouraged to pull over at a safe location before attempting to locate items inside their vehicle.
