Community Invited to Fall in Love with Nature at Heart Hike for Valentine’s Day

Families and residents are invited to share their love for nature and enjoy ecotherapy at one of the city’s most popular parks during Fishers Parks & Recreation’s Heart Hike. The free, open house event takes place on Saturday, February 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve.

Along with the opportunity to stay active during the winter, the event also offers a chance for families to learn about the environment. As participants explore the trails and hike with friends and loved ones, they will learn about the different heart shapes found in nature by finding the many photographs that line the trails. Hikers are also invited to warm up by the campfire and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate after their hike.

“The Heart Hike offers so many ways for the community and families to explore nature while spending quality time together. This event allows us to showcase a key initiative within our department and city, which is encouraging residents to unplug and experience nature firsthand,” said Tony Elliot, Director of Fishers Parks & Recreation.

“The winter season is the perfect time to unplug from the busyness of our daily lives and to remember that we can fall in love with nature and the vibrant parks in our community, even during the colder months,” explained Elliot.

Guests are encouraged to share their photos from the event using #LoveFishers for a chance to be featured on Fishers Parks & Recreation’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Also, this month, all ages are invited to submit an essay sharing the reasons they #LoveFishers for a chance to win a family 4-pack of tickets to Conner Prairie Interactive History Park. Essay entrants can qualify to win again by sharing a photo taken around Fishers using the hashtag #LoveFishers on social media. The deadline for submission is February 28, and submissions can be made here
